Scott DeWitt is the absolute 100% reason for my review being 5 stars instead of 3. He was a great installer, timely, respectful, genuine, and did the job right. Everything else unrelated to his work wasn’t all that impressive. Thanks Scott for the top tier work.

We discovered this company while visiting relatives in Ohio. Since our initial contact to replace two sets of French Doors, the entire process has been exceptional, simple, and the products are of the highest quality (while not the priciest in the market!) No hesitation to recommend this company to anyone.

Keith came out to review and quote our project. He was timely and informative. Then Thomas came out to install the windows - he was early (AWESOME), polite, completed the task quickly, and cleaned up after himself. We are happy with our windows too - they look great. We'll definitely work with this team again on our future window projects.

When it comes to home design, windows play a crucial role in both functionality and aesthetics. While standard rectangular windows are common, custom window shapes can elevate your home’s architectural appeal, creating a unique and eye-catching look. At WMGB Home Improvement, we specialize in crafting custom window solutions for homeowners in Grand Rapids and Western Michigan who want to enhance their property’s character.

Why Choose Custom Window Shapes?

Custom window shapes allow homeowners to break away from traditional designs and make a bold statement. Whether you live in a historic home or a modern build, uniquely shaped windows can complement your architecture while improving natural light and ventilation. Arched windows, circular designs, trapezoids, and even octagonal shapes can transform an ordinary façade into something extraordinary.

Beyond aesthetics, custom windows can also improve energy efficiency when designed with high-quality materials and proper installation. At WMGB Home Improvement, we ensure that every custom window is built to meet your home’s structural and performance needs.

Popular Custom Window Styles

• Arched Windows: Arched windows add a touch of elegance to any home, often seen in traditional, Mediterranean, or Gothic-style architecture. They can be used as standalone focal points or paired with rectangular windows for a balanced look. Whether semi-circular, elliptical, or Gothic-style pointed arches, these windows bring sophistication to entryways, living rooms, and even bathrooms.

• Circular and Oval Windows: Often referred to as “porthole” windows, circular and oval designs create a striking visual impact. These windows work well in coastal homes, modern builds, or as accent windows in stairwells and hallways. Their symmetrical shape softens the lines of a home’s exterior while allowing diffused natural light to enter.

• Bay and Bow Windows: While bay and bow windows are more common, customizing their shape and size can dramatically alter their effect. A bay window typically consists of three panels, while a bow window features four or more, creating a gentle curve. These windows expand interior space, provide panoramic views, and enhance curb appeal.

• Geometric and Angular Designs: For contemporary homes, geometric shapes like triangles, trapezoids, and hexagons can introduce a modern edge. These windows are often used in custom builds, sunrooms, or as artistic accents above doorways. Their unconventional angles play with light and shadow, adding dynamic interest to both interior and exterior spaces.

Enhancing Historical Homes with Custom Windows

If you own a historic home in Grand Rapids or Western Michigan, preserving its architectural integrity is essential. Many older homes feature unique window designs that are difficult to replace with standard options. Custom window shapes allow you to maintain historical accuracy while upgrading to energy-efficient materials.

For example, Victorian homes often feature intricate stained glass transoms, while Craftsman-style houses may have multi-pane casement windows with distinctive muntin patterns. By working with WMGB Home Improvement, you can replicate these designs with modern glass technology that improves insulation and UV protection.

Design Considerations for Custom Windows

Before choosing a custom window shape, consider how it will interact with your home’s existing architecture. The size, placement, and proportion should harmonize with your roofline, siding, and overall structure. Additionally, think about functionality – will the window open, or is it purely decorative?

Another factor is interior design. Unusually shaped windows can influence furniture placement, wall space, and lighting. For instance, a floor-to-ceiling arched window may become the centerpiece of a room, while a small circular window in a hallway can add charm without overwhelming the space.

Professional Installation Matters

Custom windows require precise measurements and expert installation to ensure proper fit, weather resistance, and energy efficiency. At WMGB Home Improvement, our team has the experience and craftsmanship to handle even the most intricate designs. We use high-quality materials and industry-best practices to guarantee long-lasting performance and beauty.
