The window trim or casing is the molding that covers the transition between frame and wall opening. In addition to creating a cleaner look, it helps improve window insulation. Given the number of available style options, how does one choose the right interior window trim? Check out the following tips.

To Match or Not to Match

One of the first things you should consider is whether or not you should match the existing trim and crown molding in your home. There are several factors that you should weigh, such as the existing components’ profile, the color or stain, and the material itself. If you’re going for a stained wood look, you may need to hunt down the particular stain color to create a perfect match.

Alternatively, you can have all the trim painted and or restained to match. One of the challenges of the latter is that you may need to find wood for the window trim that closely matches the existing trim’s wood grain.

Permanent Indoor Components

A good interior designer can help you find the right interior window trim in situations where you need them to work with permanent components. Your home may have components like bricks and stone that can’t simply be painted over or removed and replaced. If your existing indoor trim isn’t working with these components, consider this an opportunity to update it.
