The kitchen is the busiest area of every home, so it only makes sense to choose replacement windows that are unobtrusive but provide ample amounts of natural lighting and ventilation as well as aesthetic benefits. Here are the replacement window styles that are perfect for kitchens.

Casement Windows

Ventilation is one of the most important qualities of a kitchen window as you will need to vent cooking smells as well as accumulated moisture generated by steam. Casement windows are ideal for this purpose as they let you use 100% of the window area for ventilation. The single-sash design also allows for maximum views, perfect if the kitchen area happens to be facing a beautiful view.

Whereas traditional casement windows feature hinged designs, their modern counterparts are opened and closed using operator arms. The sashes are opened and closed using a hand crank mounted at the frame.

Sliding Windows

Sliding windows are great for kitchens that have limited space or if the window area immediately faces an area with high foot traffic, such as a footpath. The weight of the sashes rests on the frames, which makes it ideal for larger-than-usual window sizes. It can even be used as an egress window if built to the proper size. Choose sliding windows with removable sashes for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Bay and Bow Windows

Collectively known as projection windows, bay and bow windows can dramatically improve your kitchen in many ways. Both window styles feature a bay space – angled on bay windows and circular on bow windows – which can be used as window seats. They can also be built as a banquette or as a casual breakfast nook, which helps free up space in the kitchen. The space under the seats can be used for display or storage while the projecting windows provide ample amounts of ventilation and natural light as well as a panoramic view.
