When water affects your windows, you might think that a simple wipe of a towel can easily clean them. However, this isn’t actually the case as there are some areas where water is high in mineral content like magnesium and calcium. This is what is often known as hard water, and it can be difficult to remove if left alone for a long time since the sun baked has baked the mineral content into the glass. Step 1: The Mixture
When removing hard water stains from your window, the first thing you have to do is prepare the mixture. While there are many window cleaning mixtures you can make, the best solution for this situation is a mixture of half water and half vinegar. Once you’ve made the solution, soak a towel in it.
Step 2: Soften Mineral Deposits
Once the towel is soaked through, press it onto the window’s rough spots, and let it sit there for a minute or two.The acidity of the vinegar will soften the mineral deposits for easier cleaning. Afterwards, you can repeat this process until the spots disappear.
Step 3: Drying
Once the hard water stains are gone thanks to the mixture, you can now start drying your window with a rag. For an extra shine, you can also use window spray on your windows.
Alternative Method: Self-Cleaning Windows
On the other hand, if you’re too busy to clean your windows yourself, you can always have some self-cleaning glass installed on your windows. These glass types have a thin outer coating of titanium dioxide, a photocatalytic and hydrophilic chemical that can clean your window with the help of ultraviolet (UV) light.
Once the UV light shines on the coating, electrons are released which interact with water molecules in the air. The moment this happens, the molecules are broken up into hydroxyl radicals that can spread evenly across your window and wipe it clean like a squeegee when it rains.
